Hymenoplasty involves repairing and reconstructing the hymen, or the thin, elastic membrane which typically covers part of the vaginal opening. The hymen usually tears and can bleed with a woman's first sexual encounter, as well as with the insertion of a tampon or exercise such as cycling.

What should I expect from the procedure?

Hymenoplasty is an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia and sedation.
Most patients recover fully within a week and may have sexual intercourse within four to six weeks.
